In 1974, in order to take full charge of the presidency of the Third Region, Champagne-Ardenne, Gary left the APS at the head of which he was replaced 18 November 1974 by André CORTET, who joined the SPS in 1947 and was Deputy Chairman since 1959.
For three years, CORTET, a veteran philatelist, of excellent level, relentlessly pursue the work begun by his predecessors, with a real desire to do well, never on the wrong track. The involvement of the A. P.S. to St. John’s Feasts in June 1975 and the Stamp Day 1977 have to be credited to his achievements. The success of these events owes much to him. Thereafter, he will be the linchpin of all manifestations of the APS. Wishing, to what a real administrator chairs the society, counting 250 members, he was one of those who solicited Pierre Billon to succeed him.
Member of the Board of Directors since February 10th, 1957, André CORTET will be appointed Honorary President of the APS 13 December 1977.
